Garrett grew up in Summit County Colorado, where he first came to love the outdoors and where the mountains became an important part of his identity. As soon as he was able, his parents got him out on the magic carpet and he spent his childhood shredding Breck, A-basin, and Copper. His dad was a ski instructor, and Garrett spent most of his time following him all over the mountain, or skiing with his mom when his dad was working. With a family mission to ski at least one day in every month, Garrett's skiing never stopped (even if it meant skiing washboard glaciers in August).
Following a few-years-long stretch in Idaho, Garrett's family settled in to Bend Oregon when he was 16 years old. He joined the alpine ski team and got into backcountry and ski mountaineering in the Cascades, following the footsteps of his parents who climbed peaks like Rainier and Baker back in the day.
When looking at college options he knew he wanted to get back to his roots in the Rockies, so he headed to Montana State University where he now studies computer science and Montana’s epic backcountry. It's here that he really gets to push his skiing. In bounds and out, the surrounding mountains provide virtually unlimited terrain and new challenges every day. He continues to push his boundaries going into his sophomore year for the 2017/18 season, chasing that perfect balance between passing classes and shredding Montana cold smoke.
