Be it alpine meadows, rolling forests, or glacial valleys: “flats” are a given for the backcountry skier. That said, we often tend to dream about the descent with less regard for the long expanse that might precede it. Scaled skis make quick work of approach and egress in such terrain, negating the need for troublesome transitions and leaving us with more time and energy for the marquis event.
The Endeavor BC will delight the contemporary alpine traveler as much as it will the die-hard knee dropper or ascetic Nordic nerd. That's right: it’s compatible with practically any binding you could care to pair with it, including an NNN BC, Xplore, 3-Pin, Switchback, X2, TTS Transit, Lynx, Meidjo and more...
Of course, the Endeavor BC is more than simply a congenial ski/binding bridge builder... It’s the astonishing capability of a lightweight ski with an ~82mm waist. It’s the ease of an elevator approach on a well laid track. It’s the experience of a day spent gleefully re-descending 500’ laps in your local stash...not to mention the potential for 5,000 cumulative feet of vertical without a pause for climbing skins! There’s a time and a place for those skins, no question... But in this case, they can stay stowed in your pack while you reel in a personal record.

Construction
Poplar / Single Carbon / BC
Durable and damp poplar construction with triaxial fiberglass for uncompromising performance inbounds or off-piste. Traction Pattern "BC" scalebase has been included underfoot to allow for fewer transitions when traversing rolling terrain.
Full-Perimeter Steel Edge
Two lengths of 2mm steel with inset teeth wrap the full perimeter of the ski. Each section meets at the outermost points of the tip and tail, and is painstakingly hand-bent to ensure a precise layup.
Anti-Ice Topsheet
Exceptionally durable polyamide, with an irregular texture that slows the accumulation of snow and allows easy removal of snow and ice build-up when the approach is long and/or conditions are freezing.
Reinforced Mounting Patch
Heel and toe mounting areas are reinforced to prevent binding pull out.
Triaxial Fiberglass
Triaxial fiberglass increases dimensional stability along three axis.
Laminated Poplar Wood Core
The hardest wood core we employ, Poplar provides a smooth/damp ride on hardish conditions and more readily takes the abuse when things get out of hand.
Voile Carbon-Weave
Our proprietary carbon fiberglass regulates the ski's flex without an impact on bonding strength.
Traction Pattern Base
For the backcountry skier who must continually make long approaches over rolling terrain, Sharpscale traction base is a godsend. It may sap a little of the ski's downhill speed, but negotiating far fewer skin transitions may be worth it.
Sintered Black Base
This ski passes on the base graphics for the sake of an ultra-high molecular density base; making for faster downhill performance and greater wear/impact resistance.
Many claim that a black base increases a ski's maximum speed. Something about "snow melting faster," which apparently has the effect of "increasing lubrication." Sounds pretty nice, right? Of course, we don't really know if it's true... Regardless, you can rest assured that your p-tex repairs will be seamless after your day spent breaking the sound barrier.

I've skied the Endeavor BC with a pair of TTS Transit Telemark bindings with a TX Pro every tour this spring in Montana through a variety of conditions: cold dust on crust, stiff hot pow, ice, grabby wind-affected, avy debris, chalky windboard, breakable crust, corn and even some boot top powder. For a light pair of skis, they've handled it all quite well. They have a somewhat long turning radius carved on edge, but they're so light that I can pop up and swing them around with ease. As with all my skis, I liked them significantly better after a strong de-tune of the tip and tail- guess I like to smear my turns.
To scale or not to scale?
Like em: For the rolling and involved exits, not needing to put skins back on is awesome. On short stretches, I'll just shimmy in ski mode with the free heel. For longer climbs, I'll adjust my boots and bindings to tour, but am still transitioned before my friends using skins.
Don't like em as much: They don't glide as well as a non-scaled ski on the runouts. And since they don't slide backward, I can't easily slip and slide falling leaf style when re-positioning for the next turn on steep slopes, though I'm adapting.
For a pure steep skiing ski, I'd go with no scales. For my steep skiing, fitness, meadow skipping, and multi-day traverse ski, I'm glad I have the scales.
I'm 6'0, 180 pounds and the 178 feels like a good fit.

Perfect East Coast Backcountry Ski
I feel like I finally cracked the code for the best VT /east coast backcountry setup with this ski. The fish scales paired with fritche vipec evo bindings is my go to setup for all day backcountry adventures. It feels like a Nordic ski on the up and flats and a bombproof alpine ski on the down. I’m thankful Voile is making this type of ski.

I Just Had the Best Backcountry Ski of My Life
I would describe myself as a kick and glide girl with over several miles of backcountry ski trails out my front door in the forest of NH. With varied snow conditions of the past few years, I have branched out to uphill travel at the local downhill ski area. I have been using a backcounty ski with a fair amount of camber and this year wanted a ski that was more manuverable and easier to turn and was compatible with a telemark binding. I am 5'10" and weigh an average of 150 lbs; I purchased a pair of 164cm Endeavors and realized today that I have my dream ski. On the uphill travel, I can scale up or skin up and they completly fullfill my goals of easy to turn and manuver. On the backcountry tour - kick and glide I can manuver through tight spots, trees, make quick turns and have plenty of grip with the scales and glide. I am running them with Scarpa T4s and 3-pin Voile Spring Cable Traverse Telemark Binding. Thank you Voile.

Awesome Floatation in a lightweight package
When purchasing these skis I expressed to the team at Voile my concern about them being able to float my fat a**. I weigh in around 200 lbs and typically ski a length of 181-184cm in the backcountry. The longest version of this ski is only 178cm. The team at Voile assured me it would float me, and float me they did. This ski is awesome. Its narrow enough that I can control it even in bounds on hard pack with my leather Alico 3 pin boots. When paired with Voile's switchback bindings. The traction base provides effortless ascents. The camber / early rise tip combination makes this ski just want to climb to the surface of any powder. Overall this ski is awesome and is really a one ski quiver.
