The Voilé Telepro Avalanche Shovel is the closest thing we make to a snowplow. It’s made for moving mountains of snow, and is the industry standard for ski patrollers, mountain guides, and rescue workers worldwide.

The extended telescoping handle adds efficiency and reduces strain on your lower back. Once collapsed, the handle removes easily from the scoop and stows conveniently in a pack for travel or making joyous turns downhill.

But the accolades of the Telepro don’t stop there. First, its large scoop is cold forged to its quintessential Voilé shape from 6061 aluminum. Then the scoop is heat-treated to an impressive T6 temper.

T6-tempered 6061 aluminum has an ultimate tensile strength of 42,000 psi and yield strength of 35,000 psi. So what does all that mean? Let’s just say the end result is a scoop that rivals the strength and rigidity of a heavy, steel scoop you might find on a transfer shovel from a hardware store.

The shovel scoop of the Telepro Avalanche Shovel features a pair of slotted holes. In the deft hands of a snow expert, these “deadman” holes may used to fashion an emergency rescue sled or snow anchor. (Please don’t rap off the latter into a deep crevasse.)

The Telepro is truly a professional-level avalanche shovel at a price that anybody can dig.

    My favorite shovel!
I have two of them. I keep one in the car in the winter and use the second one for clearing snow of my decks. It is a most comfortable shovels I own. Perfect size , very light weight and feels very sturdy. Good job!

Most durable avalanche shovel on the market
This isn't a flashy product, but the key feature that should matter to you in a avalanche shovel is that the shovel scoop is heat-treated to an T6 temper. What that means is that the scoop won't crack when you are using your bodyweight to shovel out densely packed snow. Get this shovel because it works.

    26 years and going strong
I bought this shovel in 1995, and while the color is a bit different, it is the same shovel Voile sells now. I've used it all winter over the past 26 years for all kinds of digging tasks around the house, hacking through refrozen snow, digging out stuck vehicles, building giant kickers for myself and now my kids, etc. I've thankfully never had to use it in an actual avalanche rescue but I have 100% confidence that it wouldn't fail me. It's a big shovel and moves a ton of snow quickly, but doesn't fit in the avy gear compartment of all packs. That's more of a pack issue than a shovel issue, but something to keep in mind. If you like trying new things, don't buy this shovel. If you like bomber gear that does what it is supposed to and then some, this is your tool.

    Moves the most snow
When it comes to digging a snow pit, building a snow shelter or moving avalanche debris in a worst case scenario, nothing will beat this shovel. It's sturdy, reliable and the D handle is deal breaker for me.

    Voile Avalanche Shovel
I have a few of these kicking around and usually keep one in the car during winter months (I once ended up digging out a visiting corporate executives car in the work parking lot). The handle is stiff and sturdy and the telescoping feature works consistently. My only issue is that the tip of the blade bends when hacking into hard snow.
Thanks for submitting this review. We've never heard of this issue before. Would you mind sending a picture of the tip of the bent blade to vteam@voile.com so we can check out what's going on?

Bought one as a Christmas present. I was so impressed when it arrived that I also ordered one for myself. A bit pricey but well worth it!

    Full sized shovel
A bit heavy but not when you consider this is a full sized shovel. It extends far and the d handle gives you the leverage needed. Great working shovel.
