I’ve built two splitboards using this kit, and I highly recommend it. It’s a very cost effective alternative to buying a new splitboard, and it’s a great way to give new life to an old board. You don’t need many tools, here are a few lessons learned that might help you: Buy or rent a drill press attachment for a standard handheld drill. It makes it much easier to drill the holes cleanly with the ¾” bit. I drill a pilot hole first, move to the ¾” bit, and then drill the hole for the T Nuts. For cutting the board, I used a thin piece of aluminum stock as a guide and attached it with double sided tape. That thin aluminum follows the curve of the board perfectly and allowed me to get a long, straight cut with a cordless circular saw. Drilling the holes for the bolt attachments is the hardest part. My only criticism of the kit is that the drill hole template is clear with white lines, which can be difficult to see on a light colored board or in glare. Once you get the holes lined up correctly, though, the attachments fit perfectly. One additional word of advice: while the board does need to be wood core, it’s also best if it’s a thicker wood core. My second board had a thinner core, and it was harder to embed the T Nuts with enough space to smooth the epoxy on the bottom without the hardware protruding on top. It’s tough to prejudge board thickness, but it might be possible to file down the T Nut bites if your stance puts them in thinner areas of the board. I also used the hard boot (Mtn Plate) attachments with the Atomic Backland UL boot. The board control is unbelievable, having no boot flex makes holding an edge so much easier, even on ice. For me, it’s a fantastic setup. What you end up with feels like a mountaineering boot with semi auto crampon compatibility, a cross country ski style approach, and a snowboard descent. That combination is extremely efficient for varied terrain; almost every part of the kit supports both uphill and downhill travel. Snowboarding in the White Mountains sometimes means icy groomers, but deep in the woods, especially on the north facing slopes, the old logging roads and old growth pockets can hold three feet of powder. This kit has become my favorite way to explore those areas. Overall, it’s a great kit, a great idea, and a great price, and it only takes a couple of hours to complete if you’re set up properly.

With a lot of misgivings, but psyched up by repeatedly watching the videos above, I cut my board last season and used this kit to get my split going in just a few days. The sticker templates ensure the fit is tight. I ended up not using the included Ptex discs, instead just using epoxy, because I wasn't too worried about the drag and was in a hurry to get going. Be sure to plan the cut so you don't hit any inserts and remember not to use your circular saw to cut through any edging at the tip or tail! Downloading the instructions ahead of time helped to get some of the necessary tools together before the kit arrived.
