No frills, add-ons, or special features, the Spartan is a board born for a single purpose—getting your butt in the backcountry.
It’s base is basic black. It’s topsheet looks like it was designed by a monk. It has our new channel puck system, but that’s as fancy as it gets. It’s tough and scrappy, with an easy flex, snappy radius, and enough taper at the tail for quick flicks in the trees, but not so much you can’t ride it switch. It has our legendary lightweight construction, but not a wiff of carbon. Because you don’t need it.
This is the Spartan. True to its name and to our motto—simple, solid, backcountry.

Durable and damp poplar construction with triaxial fiberglass for uncompromising performance inbounds or off-piste.
Poplar Wood Core
The toughest wood core we employ, Poplar provides a smooth/damp ride through hard snow and shakes off the abuse when conditions get rough. Though still considered light, our poplar skis are a full pound heavier than the Hyper Series. That said, they are arguably tougher than their ultralight counterpart.
Full-Contact Steel Edge
Steel edges provide superior grip and control on hardpacked snow and icy conditions, enhancing stability and confidence while skiing. Two lengths of hardened steel with inset teeth wrap the perimeter of this ski. Each section is painstakingly shaped by hand to ensure a precise layup.
Sintered Black Base
This ski passes on the base graphics for the sake of an ultra-high molecular density base; making for faster downhill performance and greater wear/impact resistance. And you can rest assured that your p-tex repairs will be seamless after your day spent breaking the sound barrier.

This board is super playful and loves to jib. You'll be surfin through the trees like a forest dolphin on this thing! And, for the price point you can't beat it. Why not pickup this deck?!

My first splitboard so my perspective is from a beginners point of view - but the stoke is SUPER high!! I (like many beginners I've spoken with) was nervous that a splitboard would be super squirly and frustrating to learn. Welp...I was wrong! This board is dependable, super responsive and cruises pow, cords and trees like a dream. The transition is super simple and easy to learn. Price was a factor for me - definitely don't feel like I sacrificed quality or function with this lower price point board. I also purchased my bindings and skins from Voile - super pleased with those as well. AND built in the USA!! UTAH! YES!

Despite the amazing price (especially for a made-in-USA-board), Voile does the Spartan a disservice by marketing it as a beginner board or an alternative to a DIY split. This board plain rips. The shape not only floats effortlessly in pow with the huge nose, partial rocker, and taper, but carves seriously hard on less ideal snow. The tight sidecut and medium flex are a bit unusual in a direction freeride shape like this, and I think that is part of what makes it so quick and versatile. I like it so much I'm on my second one! The durability is top notch--I beat on it in East Coast low tide backcountry conditions--but I had a chance to hook up a friend just getting into splitting with a cheap used setup and bought myself a brand new Spartan 166 instead of another more "premium" option from Voile or other brands. Bomber construction, perfect shape, no gimmicks, quintessential Voile.\nMy only nitpick is that the newest version has bit more pattern on the topsheet than the original. It's fine, but I really dig the plain white/plain black aesthetic of the OG Spartan.

The combination of the shape and the flex make this a really fun board to ride. It’s the kind of board you forget about when it’s under your feet because it feels so natural. \n\nIf you’re riding big mountain lines you might want something stiffer, for for everything else this board is perfect.

Although I've only logged two days in the backcountry on this beauty, I'm very happy with it so far. Aesthetics are simple, yet pleasing. White top sheet with a splash of color on the nose and a crystalline pattern on the tail. Basic black base. No loud graphics that contrast with the simplicity and beauty of the backcountry. I'm 5'11'' and 175 lbs and purchased the 162cm length. Noticed the lightweight construction of this board right away on my first ascent - a welcome change from my 10+ year old Burton split. Ride quality is great - board offers plenty of float and surf in powder, is nimble in the trees, and was stable and snappy during "combat riding" on exit. Flexible yet stiff. Channel pucks are a breeze to adjust. Great product and affordable. Thanks Voile.
